Shipping a Kitten or Cat

Most of our kitten buyers are able to pick up their kittens, but sometimes that just isn't possible. Here is some information about shipping that might be helpful:

  • Health Certificate required to fly - Cost: $30 minimum

All animals have to have a health certificate to fly.  That runs approximately $30 - $100 depending on the vet.  I try to use a local vet that only charges $30 for the HC, but he doesn't always have appointments.  If a new pet buyer wants additional blood work run or anything like that, it can be done at the same time.  Occasionally, there are other hoops for us to jump through to ship a pet, especially if it is out of the United States.  It is the actual cost for shipping is passed on to the new owner.

  • Carrier - Cost: approximately $30 - $50

You will need a carrier with approved water and food bowl and a blanket or bedding for him to travel.  I usually ship the blanket that he has had since he was born if it is still in good shape, or get him a new one a week or so ahead of time so he can have one that smells like him and his mom.

  • Airfare: Cost: approximately $150

    I would be willing to use any of the airlines that ship from my house to yours, I prefer and usually ship Delta's Pets First Pets as Air Cargo service for shipping. 

    Here is a link to Delta’s Pet Travel Options.  Another neat thing is that if you are having two litter mates shipped they can sometimes be shipped together. 

    If time and travel permit you to come and travel home with your pet, Delta allows you to check pets with baggage and to bring them as a carry-on in the airplane under your seat.  

    I believe a carry on pet is about $50 and a baggage shipped pet is $100.  That would be in addition to your flight cost so a little more cost than Pets First.

This is information is provided to give you an idea of what is involved and how much the shipping costs could be.  Shipping is not included in the pets purchase price.   It is always the actual cost of shipping.
