The Bengal Cat is number 21?

On Friday Jan 11, 2008, the bengal cat was named # 21 in a list of the top most expensive gifts ever given. 

It was behind some interesting items like the First GI Joe: $50,000, Diamond Barbie: $85,000, Ferrari Go-Cart (from FAO Schwartz): $50,000, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head (covered in dazzling Swarovski crystals): $8,000 each, and (Conflict free) Diamond Studded Lipstick: $62,000 to name a few.

And even though it was more expensive, the (18 karat White gold) Amour Amour Dog Collar: $1.8 million ranked lower in the list at #23.

These days bengal kitten prices are much more reasonable.  Our pet kittens average  a mere $850 - $1000.

Kitty takes an unscheduled ride via Baggage Claim 

Gracie the lost cat"The last time...Kelly saw Gracie (her newly spade kitty) was before she took her husband to the airport. The 24-year-old went back to her house in Palm Beach Gardens late Friday to find the bottom step, where Gracie would usually be waiting, empty."  She tore the house apart removing bathroom tiles and part of a cabinet to check a crawl space and put up "lost cat" signs.

Then she got a phone call.  "Hi, you're not going to believe this, but I am calling from Fort Worth, Texas, and I accidentally picked up your husband's luggage. And when I opened the luggage, a cat jumped out," Kelly Levy quoted the caller saying.

Rob Carter said, "I went to unpack and saw some of the clothes and saw it wasn't my suitcase," he said. "I was going to close it, and a kitten jumped out and ran under the bed. I screamed like a little girl."

Carter said that he eventually was able to get the cat to come out from under the bed.  The tabby made the 1,300-mile trip home on an $80 plane ticket. Carter said he considered keeping the cat before he knew she had a home.  "We were going to name it Suitcase," he said.

What's the scoop?

Felines use the litter that they are used to, but we humans consider other things, like smell, ease of use and the environment.  Here are a few we recommend:

Cat in Tree Rescued With Hose Blast

YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - A fearful feline that was stuck in a tree for a week, clinging to branches several stories high, was finally blasted to safety with a high-pressure fire hose.  Volunteers with an outstretched sheet made the save as the cat - soaked and hungry but unharmed - was hosed out of the tree by firefighters Sunday night.  "Everyone was cheering," said artist and animal rescuer Greg Speirs, who was among about 50 people assembled beneath the willow tree.  The cat had previously ignored people who banged cans of cat food and climbed ladders that were just out of reach. It took two shots with the hose to do the trick.  "As soon as the cat landed it jumped out and ran into the woods," Speirs said Monday.  "Some kids helped us bring the cat back, and a man said he would adopt the cat right on the spot," Speirs said. "You can't come up with a nicer ending than that."

Hugh Grant's girlfriend's lost Bengal cats were a big story all over Europe.  According to The Sun, Hugh Grant and his girlfriend, Jemima Khan were chastised for calling Scotland Yard to help find their lost Bengal cat.  Evidently "pander(ing) to the whims of the rich and famous" is not part of their job.  Khan posted a reward poster.  The next day her other Bengal went missing, but was quickly returned by a neighbor. 

6 - 20 - 2007    Ms. Kahn, Purrs and kitty wishes, for your Bengal to have a speedy return.   He is very pretty and it is no wonder why you would want him back.

  • Cindy Jackson's Bengal, Cato, is on record as the most expensive cat ever purchased.  She paid a whopping $42,000.

Leila had her babies on April 14, 2007.  Three beautiful boys. Boy #2 is sold to a wonderful family in Buckhead.  Boy #1 and #3 are sold.

Morgan and I took the boys outside for some sun and made our first video.  It is called "Three Kittens in a Basket."  It features one of our favorite songs "Put your records on" by Corinne Bailey Rae.  That was the song that Antonella Barba sang on American Idol.
